What is the Made in Kent Campaign

The Leader of Kent County Council, Paul Carter CBE, launched the Made in Kent campaign in National Apprenticeship Week to encourage Kent employers to double the number of apprentices in Kent.

Now that a number of improvements having been recently made to apprenticeships, there is no better time to take on an apprentice.  KCC will be happy to help with any aspect of apprenticeship recruitment.

The first phase of the campaign was raising awareness about the levy and providing support to employers, young people and training providers to enable apprenticeship recruitment.

The second phase is the launch of our Made in Kent 'Meet an Employer' events - aiming to offer 1,000 interviews to 1,000 young people.

This is a fantastic opportunity for potential apprentices to gain valuable interviewing experience by meeting with a local employer and training provider for a mock interview. Participants will learn about the company, the work they do on a day-to-bay basis and what they are looking for when recruiting an apprentice. Once the interview is over, the potential apprentice will then meet with a career advice panel where they will receive practical advice about taking their next career steps. Ultimately, we want everyone taking part to leave with a clear understanding of the options available and the exciting benefits of an apprenticeship!

In order to make these events a success, we need a variety of employers to be there on the day. Whether you want to help as part of your corporate social responsibility or simply want to talk about your business to a group of young, talented individuals, we want to hear from you!

Employers at past events have been so impressed by some of the young people they have met, they have gone on hire them as apprentices themselves!
