Five ways to make the most of your Apprenticeship

If you have recently secured your first apprenticeship and it feels a bit daunting or scary, first of all remember that you have done very well to come this far!
Although every apprenticeship is unique, there are some good ways to prepare yourself for the journey ahead and make the most of your experience.

Background research

Although you will have researched the company prior to your interview, it is a good idea to remind yourself of this information and delve a little deeper into what the company does. Arriving with this knowledge is sure to impress your employer and get your apprenticeship off to the best start.

Be enthusiastic

Showing enthusiasm for the company from day one is a great way to impress and stand out as an Apprentice. You are more likely to be given extra opportunities which will help you gain more employable skills and could even lead to a permanent position with the company.

Ask for help if you need it

As an apprentice, employers would be worried if you didn’t have questions to ask or need help from time to time. Although it is important to be prepared, you are not expected to be an expert on your first day.

Observe how other members of staff work

Observing how your colleagues work and communicate is a good way to learn a company’s practices and impress. You will be surprised by how much you can learn in this way.

Get to know your colleagues.

This may seem obvious, but it is a good idea to get to know as many of your colleagues as possible. Although most apprenticeships will team you up with a designated mentor, speaking to people in other departments can give you a broader understanding of the company and help you create a network of contacts.

These tips should help you get off to the best possible start in your apprenticeship. If you haven’t secured an apprenticeship opportunity yet, then why not check out our vacancies on
